how do find out who owns franchise fast food establishments and who is owners of small food establishments?
Have been searching for owners info via online for state of California. Been checking search engines and checked BBB and not listed, and food is not apart of consumer affairs. Any suggestions?
needtoknow makes a good point. My preferred m.o. (besides contacting the local Chamber of Commerce) is to go to the restaurant in question. If it’s a conscious owner, he/she will likely be working there, and will likely stand out as being the friendliest, most social, etc. Granted, this is a bit altruistic as many restaurant owners are not people people, or do not care enough to actually be in the store. If that fails, just ask a manager, they should know.
I’d imagine that stuff is private, like with celeberities. Would YOU want people knowing who you were and where you lived if you owned McDonald’s?

They should have a business license posted in a public place in their business. You could call the local heath department if you cannot find the license on the wall. It is supposed to be posted in a open space where everyone can see it (the law in most states). I suppose each state is different, but the person who has their name on the license would be public information. You may not get an individuals name, but you will get a company name. Most franchise holders have more than one restaurant. Call the Attorney Generals Office in your state and they should guide you to the right department.
